The Transitioning Military Training Program assists transitioning military members with refining the skills that they’ve gained through their military service to match the demands of employers throughout the region. Each program offered through TMT results in a professional license or certification which is key when stepping out into the civilian workforce. Additionally, the Transitioning Military Training Program scholarship covers you for the cost of the course and, upon successful completion, the cost of the certification testing (courses normally range from $895-$4800).


Nationally recognized certifications are becoming increasingly important to job seekers. Prior service members have a wealth of experience and possess many traits desired by employers, but often have difficulty landing jobs because they lack certifications or documented training that formalize their experience and abilities. The Technical College of the Lowcountry is pleased to announce access to EIGHT programs for transitioning military members and veterans that will greatly enhance their marketability in today’s job market:


FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License Prep Course is a six week on-campus course, with classroom instruction, and hands-on practical training to prepare students for the path towards the Federal Aviation Administration Airframe & Powerplant License. Through this course experienced Aviation Maintenance Technicians will achieve the readiness required for successful completion of the AMT General, AMT Airframe, and AMT Powerplant written exams. After completing these exams, the FAA requires successful performance of Oral & Practical examinations with a Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME) to be issued a license. This preparation course is designed for individuals with documented aviation maintenance experience who meet the designated criteria to apply for an FAA Mechanic’s License per 14 CFR Part 65.71 & 65.77. Upon meeting the eligibility and experience criteria set forth, two copies of FAA Form 8610-2, the Airmen Certification Application must be completed and signed during an interview with an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector to be able to enter the program.

This course is not an FAA Part 147 approved course.

Instructor permission is required for registration.

All written exams shall be taken on campus at the TCL Beaufort Testing Center (Building 2, 2nd Floor). Written exam testing shall be conducted after each two week module is completed. A signed FAA Form 8610-2 and two forms of identification are required for entry into each examination.


NCATT Certified Aircraft Electronics Technician is an on-campus ASTM International accredited course including classroom instruction and hands-on practical training that will prepare aviation professionals, and avionics technicians to attain the NCATT AET certification. Avionics or electronics experience suggested but not required. No prerequisites required.


Certified Avionics Navigation/Communication Systems Technician is an on-campus ASTM International accredited course including fast paced classroom-based systems technical training that will educate and prepare avionics technicians, electronics professionals, and aviation maintenance technicians for successful completion of the NCATT AET Systems Certification Endorsements including Aircraft Onboard Communication Systems, Radio Communication Systems, Dependent Navigation Systems, and Autonomous Navigation Systems.

FCC Commercial Radio License Prep Course is a guided self-study program (at your own pace) that prepares aviation professionals, and avionics technicians for acquiring their FCC General Radio Telephone Operators License with a Ship Radar Endorsement. This course is eligible to start at anytime and can be finished through successful completion of the FCC elements 1, 3 & 8 written examinations via a Certified FCC Exam Proctor. Contact the TCL Aviation Programs Coordinator (information below) to schedule a class anytime!


Certified Logistics/Production Technician is a five part online course (at your own pace), including safety, quality practices and measurements, manufacturing processes and production, maintenance awareness, and green production. Completion of the program earns a national certification by MSSC (Manufacturers Skills Standards Council) Courses available now.


Welding is a four-part on campus course including all of the basic welding styles and completion results in AWS Welding Certification. Total hours 288 + 10 hour Certification.


Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a 20- hour DHEC approved course that prepares you for the EMT Certification licensure exam at the emergency technician level.


Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training allows you to earn your commercial driver’s license in five weeks. You must have your CDL permit to apply for entrance to this program.
