TCL welcomes back students with ‘Welcome Week’

Published on August 26, 2021

Classes for the Fall semester at TCL started back Monday, Aug. 23, but as most TCL students will tell you, the real fun begins during Welcome Week.

An annual tradition at TCL, Welcome Week starts the second week of classes and includes a week full of fun and social events designed to have students feeling both connected and engaged with their college experience.

“For me personally, it’s super exciting just to have students back on campus,” said TCL’s Student Development Coordinator Jamie Rivers who organizes the weeklong event every year.

“Campus life is intended to engage with the TCL community. Now more than ever, that’s needed,” he said.

Here’s a look at what’s happening for this year’s Welcome Week:

Unless otherwise specified, all of the following activities will occur in the lobby of Building 12 on the Beaufort Campus.

Club Sign Up

TCL offers a number of clubs and organizations for students to join such as Science Club, Gaming Club and Man Up, a national mentoring program. In addition, student organizations such as Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa and others offer a chance for students to really shine. Information on clubs will be available in the lobby all week.

Photo Booth

Look for the giant photo booth in the lobby if you want to snap a quick photo or two and make some memories with your friends.

Food Drive

Students, as well as faculty and staff, are encouraged to bring cans or non-perishable items for the TCL Food Drive. TCL will donate those items to local shelters. Look for the drop boxes in the lobby.

Scavenger Hunt

Students can sign up to get clues for the TCL Scavenger Hunt. This year’s theme is “Know Your Campus Resources.” Times and dates to be determined based on interest. To register email: ktrent@tcl.edu.

Board Game Socials

From Scrabble to Pictionary to Throw the Burrito (yes, that’s a game), you won’t want to miss out on the action with these fun board game socials. Games are available in the Student Center in Building 12. To sign up or learn more, email ktrent@tcl.edu.

Gaming/Pool/Ping-Pong Tournaments

If you’ve got a mean ping-pong serve, you may want to get in on a tournament. Tournaments are also available for pool and various video games. Tournaments will be held in the Student Center in Building 12, with days and times to be determined. To register email jnrivers@tcl.edu.

Bocce Ball

Bocce, sometimes called Italian lawn bowling, is a fun and competitive game played outdoors. Games will be played on campus in front of Building 10, with days and times to be determined. To register email jnrivers@tcl.edu.
